Finally, a translation of Deleuze into Russian entered
intellectual life of Russia and became a big event."Presentation
de Sacher-Masoch" has been published together with a book by Leopold
Sacher-Masoch (editor M.Rychlin). The editors put the accent on the fact
that Sacher-Masoch had Slavic origins. Apart from that
Deleuzean way of thinking this translation brought some kind of freshness
into the dogmatic atmosphere of Russian intellectual life.
In March 1996 I was in Russia and it was interesting to see how
Russian artists and intellectuals were constantly naming and quoting
Deleuze, while talking about the current situation in
Russia --- as it Russia would live through its most masochisitc
phase in history.
