SF and superstition seem to me related via the axis of imaginary expansionism if not straight forward imperialism, exoticism, domination, but also fear. of course, it all does have a very realistic and moral touch. in fact it is moralism and legitimization since it projects the rules of a new order....

the second question:
of course, all the enlightenment writing from the 18 century on deals with it...
I am sure there is a lot more on it written today thought I don't know anybody of hand
