I hope you didn't overdo it last night celebrating the fourth
anniversary of the Zapatistas' New Year's offensive! (Of course you
were....) I remember clearly how, with the first reports of it on public =
radio and the Internet, my housemate and I were positively elated at this
demonstration of somebody willing and able to "stick it
to the man" in a cynical postmodern era, after the "End of
History" and the "triumph of capitalism" (and all that crap). The
news of the offensive, the declarations of the EZLN, and their subsequent
struggles with the Mexican government lauched in Baltimore, where I
was living at the time, a wave of political protest and organizing as
had not been seen since the Gulf War, and I'm sure the same was true
